DPF Category Covered by ECE R. 103 that Requires the Use of Homologated Aftermarket Emissions Control Components
Frankfurt, Germany, 16 September, 2014 – Representatives of Tenneco’s Walker® Emissions Control brand are reminding automotive workshop professionals that the use of non-homologated aftermarket diesel particulate filters (DPF) can carry significant risks for their businesses and customers as a result of Economic Commission of Europe (ECE) Regulation 103. Tenneco, a leading global manufacturer of original equipment and replacement emissions control components, offers a comprehensive range of fully homologated Walker Evolution DPF units for today’s vehicles.
“Homologation is required throughout Europe for all aftermarket catalysts, standalone DPFs and components that combine the catalyst and DPF within a single unit,” said François Vandenbroucke, senior product manager emissions control, Tenneco Aftermarket Europe. “This regulation protects both the service provider and consumer from potential engine damage, reduced fuel efficiency and other issues associated with products that are not of adequate quality.
“By choosing a trusted brand such as Walker, you can be certain that you are purchasing and installing a component that is fully compliant with ECE requirements,” Vandenbroucke added.
The homologation process – required by all European nations – protects workshops and consumers by ensuring that aftermarket emissions control components provide the same key performance characteristics as the corresponding original equipment parts. Each emissions control component sold through the aftermarket must bear a code identifying the nation through which the part was homologated as well as the corresponding directive or guideline and a homologation number.
The use of non-homologated emissions control parts can lead to significant penalties. It can also ruin the reputation of a business and lead to potentially severe vehicle performance issues. Removing a DPF altogether from a vehicle is illegal in European countries and can result in a fine and impoundment and might void the manufacturer warranty and vehicle insurance.
The Walker Evolution DPF range comprises economical Walker “EVO C” units featuring advanced cordierite technology appropriate for millions of vehicles and Walker “EVO S” silicon carbide filters matching the technology used by many vehicle manufacturers.
